GSTIN, HSN/SAC, and tax lines on an India invoice

A practical GST invoice shows supplier GSTIN, invoice number and date, place of supply cues when relevant, item or service descriptions (HSN/SAC in the line text if you use them), taxable value, and either CGST+SGST or IGST. We pre-fill 18% as a common services starter — change the rate or split Taxes into 9%+9% (or one IGST line) to match your supply.

Put your GSTIN under From and the buyer’s GSTIN for B2B when required. Keep INR as the default unless the contract is in another currency, and spell out UPI or bank details so clients can pay without chasing you.

UPI, NEFT/RTGS, and how Indian clients pay

Most Indian freelancers and SMEs collect via UPI (VPA / QR) or NEFT/RTGS/IMPS bank transfer. Put your UPI ID and account details (IFSC + account number) in bank details or Notes, and ask the payer to use the invoice number as the remittance remark.

For B2B GST invoices, buyers often need your GSTIN and a clear place-of-supply note to claim ITC. Keep those fields readable on the PDF even when you also share a UPI QR offline.

Intra-state CGST+SGST vs inter-state IGST

Intra-state supplies commonly show CGST and SGST as two equal lines (for example 9% + 9% when the total GST is 18%). Inter-state supplies often use a single IGST line instead. Do not invent both patterns on the same invoice — pick the one that matches your place of supply.

HSN/SAC codes can sit in the line description when your CA or ERP expects them. This generator does not look up rates; it lets you type the codes and tax lines you already know are correct.

India estimates and quotes before the GST invoice

Use India Estimates or Quotes for INR proposals, then issue a GST invoice when work is complete or a milestone is due. Keep proposal numbers separate from tax invoice numbers for cleaner books.

If GST applies only on the final invoice, leave tax off the quote and add CGST/SGST or IGST when you bill. Buyers who need ITC will ask for a proper tax invoice PDF — not the estimate.
